gas vs. wood

I am ready to step up from my Weber kettle. I have been looking at gas grills for convenience (having never owned one). Is the flavor result the same as wood/charcoal? Is gas really that convenient (I can get a mesquite wood fire going in approx. 30 mi nutes using a starter funnel and newspaper). What about the claims made by gas unit manufacturers about "true BBQ taste?" I have been looking at the Broil King, or a private label model offered by BBQ Galore, a chain here in S. Calif. I was told that th e Weber Genesis does not produce enough heat, and if you want to cook indirect, the placement of the burners along the length of the unit (rather than perpendicular) restricts usuable cook space. The wood unit I have been looking at is the New Brunfiels with the offset firebox, and the model with tiered shelving and two wood/charcoal fire trays with doors on either side. Any suggestions and/or recommendations. Thanks in advance.
