You can reach Traeger Industries via the Internet at
http://server.mtsi.com/~traeger.
Food cooked on a pellet smoker is every bit as good as food cooked
on a wood/charcoal smoker. Traegers burn wood pellets that are
fed to a fire pot from an
electrically-powered auger. The temperature
is determined by how fast the auger turns. The faster the auger
turns, the hotter the fire.
The pellets are 100 percent wood -- NO additives or glue. Traeger
carries many varieties/flavors of wood
pellets (my husband and I
usually use oak). You also can get pellets from different
sources besides Traeger. Prices vary; I suggest shopping around.
Traegers come in all sizes from backyard models to large commercial
models.
A benefit o
f owning a Traeger is that you don't have to babysit
the cooker all the time. If you want to grab a few hours sleep, you
can without worrying that the fire will go out.
Of course a drawback is that, like with anything mechanical, you run
the
risk of the auger motor or fan quitting (as we found out at a
recent contest). We always have spare motors, fan blades, and
circuit boards on hand.
Good luck and happy Qing!
