A friend gave me for my birthday a book by a Kansas Citian named Lou Jane Temple called Revenge of the Barbeque Queens. Elizabeth from Kansas--you may know of it or of the author. Anyway, it has a really kick-ass recipe called Pigpen's Secret Sauce (Pigp en was an unsavory character who ended up head-down in his secret sauce just before a major competition (maybe the American Royal). The sauce has apple cider, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, several types of mustard, honey, molasses, dark beer and coffee, amo ng other interesting ingredients. It sounded so weird I just had to make it and it is SO FINE. I doubt I can just fire the recipe onto the Net, but if you can get the book--and if it's available here it's available anywhere--make the sauce. It's SO GOOD. It does great things for piggy butt and ribs. If anyone find's it and makes it I'd love to hear from you.
