In addition to sponsors not wanting to underwrite such shows, the Ft. Rucker rule would mean all cook teams that have sponsor logos on their trailers would have to cover them up somehow. Obviously that would be a royal pain.

Then again, what if smoker manufacturer XYZ wanted to put up the prize money for "The XYZ Cook-off". I can see how they might not want their competitors to have a presence there, similar to the Coke and Pepsi policies of requiring exclusivity as soft-drink sponsors.

Maybe this is something that should continue to be left up to the individual contest to decide unless the practice becomes widespread and problematic for sponsored teams.
