Pigs ears

We just sent four big piggies to market. One of the many good things we're getting back (besides the shoulders, sausage and bacon) are the ears. We'd like to give them to our dogs as treats.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if they can they just be smoked, or is there more to curing them?
