There’s an interesting story as to how pig ears came about being a pet treat. Eons ago a young American traveling in Europe was invited to supper at a village home, for pork. The villager cut the ears off and Q’d them, let ‘em cool and fed ‘em to his dogs. Thus a commercial idea was hatched. When the American returned home he discovered that US pig ears were valueless (went to rendering), thus he got ‘em for free, started Q’ing them and giving samples. Today, raw pig ears trade at $1.15 per pound. This American went from a back yard pit, to a multi-million dollar facility, with annual sales well into the millions.
