Also realize that the way this board works, every new post after yours pushes your question farther and farther down the screen, and it doesn't move up the list when somebody replies to it (like the way most other boards work). So it's easy for any post to get moved so far down that it isn't seen immediately. I'd suggest waiting 24-48 hours before deciding that you aren't getting a response, then ask again.

To add my 2 cents worth to the original question, I am a very amateur bbq'er with a WSM. It uses a pan full of water as a basic part of its design, yet many WSM users (myself included) have stopped using water entirely and find that it made no difference in the quality of the bbq, while reducing the amount of charcoal consumed. So, use water if you want, but it's not needed in my (limited) experience.
