Best way for painting a pit?

I'd like to paint the exterior of my Lang 84. I have been told several things; to spray it with high heat paint spray paint, to use engine paint or paint it with powder coat paint. Has anyone painted their pit and if so, could you suggest the correct procedure and paint to use. I do have access to auto body paint equipment. I'd appreciate any advice.
