Changing Tastes

Hello, all. I don't compete, but the poll (changing recipies to keep with judges tastes) got me thinking (which almost always gets me in trouble). A lot of posts talk about judges and what traditional bbq is supposed to be (which, IMHO, should be an unchanged constant). Why should judge's changing tastes define traditional bbq, and if tastes do indeed change, do you think that there should be a new catagory, say contemporary (you know, untraditional use of ingreadients in sauces and use of friut salsas and the like) kind of like to show off team's creative skills or would that just take away from the whole real contest of traditional smoked meats? Kind of like anything butt, but with the meats that are allowed in the contest. Not trying to stir anything up but just curious on my lazy saturday mind wanderings
Steve
PS go easy on me, I gave up drinking last week temporarily for health reasons!
