I don't compete either, but I'm going to have side with csc on this one (pardon me for not knowing your name). I know that I am in a discussion forum where, among many other topics, KCBS competitions are regularly discussed and are the recognized means whereby barbequed items are compared and evaluated. Yes, there are other types of comps, but among the overwhelming number of people who post to this list, the KCBS competitions are the recognized standard.

I'm also not foolish enough to post a note telling the folks here my barbeque is as good or better than theirs while casually disregarding the accepted standard. I, for one, am not about to spit on all the time and effort and expense that competition smokers pit into competitions, or the results of those competitions, that give competitors the right to say that theirs _is_ as good or better than someone else's. And if I did manage to make such a comment, even if it was made inadvertently while trying to make a joke, I wouldn't try to defend myself when other folks took offense.

If you don't want to compete, Rob, then then don't tell people to compare your ribs to anyone else's. You've got every right not to "play in their sandbox." But don't knock it and don't expect anyone else to play in yours.

Dave
