This is a fine line when it comes to beef. Grain feed used to mean corn. It still does in many vast commercial farms. Beef is generally raised on grass, and finished on grain. However for beef, cows in a feedlot on corn for more then 120 days actually has negative effects on the meat. Corn is not the natural feed for cows, and beyond 120 days, it starts to give the cows stomach ulcers, and infections. Almost 100% of feedlot finished cattle are on a low grade anti-biotic to ward off infection, for finishing over 90 days. 100% are on anti-biotic over 120 days. This is another great example of why its important to know where your meat comes from. Hormel and the beef at wally world are anyones guess as to how long on corn, and how much anti-biotic are pumped into them.
