Barrel Smokers?

I have access to new, unused barrels for a smoker. These are irregulars that the manufacturer passes off to custodial suppliers for trash or storage barrels. They are black on the outside and have a shiny white enamel looking finish on the inside. Do I need to burn off the inside coating before building and using for cooking? TIA!
