Why is sanction important? That question sure comes up a lot. I was just told a story about a team that did well at an unsanctioned contest last year. They received their ribbons and trophy, but are still waiting on "the check."

Sanctioning won't fix everything, but it will help to make sure things are on the up and up and it definitely will help insure that the rules are standardized for all of the teams. I love the idea that no matter where I travel to cook, I know the rules before I leave the driveway. I'm not talking about just KCBS, but all sanctioning bodies.

Next time someone asks why sanctioning is important, I'll have one more story to tell them. Oh, and regarding this story, the names and dates have been changed to protect the innocent.
