The show is Food Network Challenge: Build a better burger 2
The date was September 2005. I was chosen to be one of the 5 competitors for the Build A better burger contest in Napa Valey. My recipe as prepared by the culinary staff had the highest marks of all going into the contest as I was told by the staff when I got there. As a result, I got major air time.
However, I didnt win. I'm used to cooking things in Vermont where in the fall the temps at noon is about maybe 50. In Napa that day it was 85. My recipe called for processing steak and sausage into a burger. It got kinda mealy and I over cooked it. These things you learn.
That burger contest initaited me into the cooking contest world. I was a backyard BBQr several years prior having built my own double barrell "big baby" smoker back in 2002.
So naturally, I compete in the Northeast and hope to see any of you in our events. Scottie, I'm looking forward to meeting you in Lake Placid! Last year was our first year on the BBQ circuit but this year we've got professional equipment and aquired knowlege from the Baron and soon YankeeBBQ (Steve).
This year is going to be our best year in BBQ!
