I have gone to the lump briquettes...consistent burn all the way through but, since it is hardwood lump, it leaves a LOT LESS ash behind. And, not the horrible smell that Kingsford has do to the amount of chemicals it has in it...read the MSDS on it...you'd be surprised what's in that stuff!
I have used the Rancher product from the Original Charcoal Company and Humphrey's Lump briquettes with great success...and the Original Charcoal Rancher has won championships as well...perhaps you've heard of Moonswiners BBQ??...The 19th Annual JD winner...Chad was using Rancher when he won the JACK! :-)
