I don't think the Brinkman is a closed unit meaning that you can't control the airflow. Air seeps in from the sides. You need a sealed unit which is what Weber gives you. You can actually control the fire which is what you want. If I were you I'd grab a smokenator and then a WSM when you can afford it. You'll always need a grill like the weber so this makes perfect sense.
