I'll never understand this, except for the fun-with-fire-factor. A sheet of newspaper worth of ashes in a hobby overflowing with ashes just isn't a big deal. And unlike the propane, the paper doesn't cost anything. Newspaper might take an extra 15 minutes to get the coals started, but if I was in a hurry, I wouldn't be barbecuing.
