Thats a question for whoever is in charge of the judging or the contest. KCBS rules state a minimum of 6 ribs, seperated and identifiable. I like to put at least 8 ribs so the last judge can have a choice. At IBCA contests, they will tell you at the cooks meeting exactly how many ribs and how they shall be placed in the box, no variation. The judges at an IBCA event use plastic knives and forks and just take a bite, not the whole rib. There may be 7 ribs, but there may be 10 judges at the table. Then the entry may go to a final table for more judging. So it all depends on how they are judging as to whether you have enough ribs for the judges.
