I had a square burn basket made for mine, with dividers in it to make and "S" pattern and (in theory) promote and extended burn. It really performed inconsistantly and it's been sitting under my deck, unused for a few years now.
Now we utilize something that I guess could be considered a basket. It's got expanded metal for a base and sides that are about 4 inches high...it's a rectangle, 24"x12" and we just manage the fire in that basket and let it burn across, from one side of the fire box to the other (30" wide box). It does a good job of holding the charcoal tightly together for a uniform burn and we add wood on top of that for smoke.
