Poor analogy. Races are measured by time. Easily measured with a clock. By definition, a race has a finish line or goal, easily measured. TASTE - it consists of sweet, salty, sour and bitter. The tongue is the only instrument to measure these. My tongue may be different than yours. I know what sweet is, but in bbq I don't care for it, I'd score it low. TENDERNESS - I chew my bbq, never pull it. Rubber should score well with this test. APPEARANCE - I like Monet, but don't care for Warhol. How subjective can you get?

It should be clear that certified judges are simply a way for KCBS to generate more revenue. It is a scam.
