My buddy and I tried to purchase a full grown emu last summer for our small hometown BBQ contest, and were going to do it like a beer can chicken for the laughes. I called a couple of breeders here in Kansas and they told me that an adult bird would sell for around $500 because of the oil and feathers and what not, so we scrapped the plan. I'd still like to try it sometime. We went with a "Hidin' the Sausage" pork loin instead stuffed with homemade garlic sausage and won. We had guys coming up and saying that they were going to vote for us just on the name alone. The little ol blue-hairs really blushed when we told them the name, and we got alot of laughs.
