are one of the reasons antibiotics are less and less effective when you do get sick and need them. every unnecessary use of antibiotics needlessly results in increasing resistance in the germ population.

for instance, if the cows are fed antibiotics, and you manage to get e.coli from the contaminated meat, the bug you get will be that much harder to kill off in your body, which results in you being that much more at risk.

that's one reason why using "antimicrobial" hand soap is a bad idea too: you are simply helping create more robust microbes in your home.
