I use Sanderson Farms thighs, usually 12-18. The rest of my comp meats come from Sam's. That combo has done us well in the past. Three racks of ribs, two butts, two packers. (sometimes one packer and one flat)
I would feel comfortable with 6 thighs as mentioned and one of each of the rest from Sam's. That scenario would make me pay a little more attention for sure. Maybe I should start doing that anyway. lol
