As I have stated I really don't think it makes much difference if they are so called CBJs or off the street, I would rather take my chances with un-certified judges than a contest that the CBJs were just trained 3 days ago. At least then you would know that you are or are not liked by the John Q Public instead of just a handful that have rules that they interpret and add their own little twist.
Case in point I have never had anyone I have given bbq to that had never had competition style and didn't just about do back flips and explain how wonderful or how it was the best bar none ya da ya da ya da. Having said that I don't do very well at comps. Thats because they are not told what to like they only know what it is they do like.
I really didn't mean to sound like I am slamming you just the idea the cbjs are so much better and would really make a difference in scores, of course they do but prove to me it is better somehow and not actually worse. By the way I was a cbs until I dropped my membership and have judged more than I have cooked. Now tell me, am I any less qualified to judge because I don't have cbj attached?
