Amateur Contest

I have a question for everyone, a town next to my home town North Central Kansas has a contest every year and the first question reads like this " Are you a professional" this contest is unsanctioned by the way. My question is how/when are you considered a professional in the BBQ world? I say if you have sponsors and they pay for all your stuff then you are a professional (which I think is great and would like to get there one day). I guess I see it as if I was a professional athlete then yes I wouldn't get to play in a college game, but I have competed in KCBS contest before so does that make me a professional? I think not. Any help or thoughts on this would be great. Lazy Bacon BBQ will be in McPherson, Kansas this weekend if your there stop and say hi to us.
