I don't think so. When Competitors lose it's only natural to complain about the officiating. It's human nature, it happens in sports all the time. No judge should take it personally.
Should there be more interaction between judges and cooks ? I just don't know if that's a good thing. We have blind judging in KCBS for a reason. To keep things fair and on the up and up. I prefer to have impartial judges. Imagine if NBA and NFL referees were caught hanging out at a professional athletes mansion ? I'm sure there would be some major hoopla over that. It's simply not allowed.
I hope the KCBS Reviews the Rocky Mountain judging experiment and considers the implications of tightening the bonds between judges and cook teams before too many well meaning organizers take the idea and run with it.
I understand and enjoy the social nature of our competitions but the fact is they are COMPETITIONS. There should be some distance between judges and competitors in my opinion.
