I use lump on cold mornings because it gets hotter faster and I can heat my cook chamber quicker. At the same time I light the lump, I have another cylinder filled and lit with Kingsford. when the Kingsford is ready, i add it to the lump and together they do get my chamber up to cook temp faster than just using charcoal. i have a BWS and she seems to like it this way...no chemical tast or smell has been experienced...my $.02
