About eight or ten years ago, for a contest in Marshall, Missouri, our meat guy gave us two extra racks of ribs besides our usual order. He said he knew some teams that were trying them and he wanted our opinion. They were custom-trimmed at the store to include quite a bit of extra loin meat on the bone. They looked great...and possibly illegal. We showed them to the KCBS Rep (Bunny) before the contest and sho' nuff: illegal. Now, maybe the letter and/or the spirit of the rule has changed since then, but they were a DQ at the time.
