First things first. Congratulations to the cookers this last weekend that won 180 pins. You did a great job and have a reight to feel good about yourselves.
That being said. I take exception to a certain KCBS board member expressing her desire to change the scoring system because cooks are starting to receive more 180 pins than a few years ago. I'm not going into the statistics again because that was all posted and discussed last week. All this board member did was demean the importance of winning a 180 pin. All competition cooks spend a lot of blood, sweat, tears and money to be able to compete against their peers. From personal experience, I know winning a 180 pin puts an exclamation point on the whole weekend. It just feels great. It gives a cook a lot of pride. For a board member to come along and take that feeling away is inexcusable and irresponsible. Shame on you.
After the last scoring change in 2004, a lot of cooks were whining because they couldn't score a 180 or come close to it anymore. My response to them over the years was "learn how to cook better". After all the $500 cooking classes and how to videos and pitmaster shows, apparantly there are some cooks that did learn how to cook better and now the results are showing.
