well, i've learned another valuable lesson from the school of hard knocks. it was a beautiful day yesterday, so i fired up the charcoal chimney. i normally transfer the chimney from my beer can receptacle to my big green egg, across my small concrete walkout slab. unbenounced to me, one on the lava red charcoal units worked its way out of the bottom of the chimney, and onto the slab. being barefoot was a sense of freedom. now, having the leather foot of a 51 year old, and being a benchwarmer for aarp, pain doesn't set in as quick as when i was 16. as i put on my new york strip i heard a sizzle down below. then came the pain. centered on my big toe was a quarter sized chunk of charcoal. oh yeah, i've stepped on them before, but this one about burned my big toe off. don't bbq naked.
on a less painful note, ribs for kids takes place this saturday in beautiful wall lake iowa. cookies, the isu meat lab, and the iowa bbq society have pulled it all together again. join us if you can.
nominations for the 2010 bbq hall of fame are slim, so if you know of anyone you want to see entered, please send in an application. its no big deal if no one gets entered in 2010, but i feel that some people who have been nominated in the past(and didn't get entered), may have a shot the second time around.
ps-the bbq forum sale is coming up soon. i'm going to need to start getting some picks going. wonder if i can get some quau picks? pellet envy picks? scottie picks? lotta bull picks? any others?
