Russ, I like the idea of making each judge write a comment on each entry regardless of the score given. I also think the judges should be required as drbbq suggested, to take a minimum of two bites of each entry.
I feel that these two proposed requirements would make the judges take their jobs seriously and give a better critique of each entry. The judges who take small bites and lots of leftovers home with them are a small minority of the total number of judges on the circuit, but they are the reason why so many cooks complain about inconsistent judging. My observation not only applies to CBJs but to non-CBJs as well.
