Have a fishing buddy that says he wants to make BBQ -- briskets, butts, and ribs, etc. He's not the type person that likes to tend a cooker and has been asking questions about electric and pellet smokers. I've always cooked with charcoal and wood chunks and have never eaten Q cooked in an electric or a pellet cooker. He has pretty discriminating taste for BBQ, so I don't won't to steer him wrong. Actually, I too have given thought recently to one of these cookers, buy am in no hurry to buy one, and plan to try to attend a competition cook next year and taste food cooked in a pellet cooker. What do you guys think about electric smokers, in terms of the quality of BBQ they produce? Would you say it is comparable to meat cooked over coals, or would it be about the same as cooking in an oven?
