Equal parts of hoisin sauce and ketchup make a purty nice sauce with a chinese flare. Also consider a dash of sesame oil (careful how much you add as it can overpower quickly). And a dash of Sriracha hot sauce and some fine ground black pepper.

Try this:
1/4 cup hoisin
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp Sriracha
1/2 tsp black pepper

Maybe whisk in a little vegetable oil if it needs to be smoother, and add some honey if'n you want it sweeter.

Cheers
Chris
