Unless you know exactly what you are doing, you will be buying knives more often. Improper sharpening with a bench grinder can ruin a knife or reduce its life span by removing too much steel from the blade.

Remember those old electric can openers that had the knife sharpening attachment on the back side of the unit? I grew up in the family hardware store. My dad always said that sharpener on the back sold more knives for him than his good salesmanship.
