Are you telling me that Rod, Mike, Darren, etc didn't "compete" for team of the year?? Would they fly to contests late in the season to increase their points if they were not "competing"? I don't think you should earn TOY points unless your head cook is a KCBS member. I also don't think requiring this would change much other than maybe help the tallying of the points. I don't think you should have to join to compete. I only do a few contests a year and some of the best times are in the smaller towns were there are a number of local teams that only do that one contest a year. I have met a lot of great people and had some very good times with these teams. They take their BBQ seriously, but not all the political stuff. That is why I participate. I am a member because I judge a couple times a year and like to use the KCBS website to help plan my contests and see results of people I know.
