You membership isnt what pays for the sanctioning and smooth running of an event.... A team pays a premium entry fee, and organizers pay KCBS to sanction. It is a Service KCBS sells...

Your membership gets you: Bullsheet, Website benefits like the "team bios", discounts, etc.... and it is obviously necessary if you want to maintain your judge certification, or compete for ToY, etc...

I'm not saying that cooks shouldnt be members... heck if you cooked one of the KCBS/ABA events, you became a member of the ABA with your contest entry.

I'm just saying you are wrong in stating your membership is what provides the access to sanctioning. It isn't. Any organizer of any kind of event can pay KCBS to sanction it. I could have an apple pie contest, and pay KCBS to sanction it as a competitor series event. I dont think the folks that sign up for my pie contest would have to be KCBS members.... but they definately have a right to go to a well run event.
