In 2009 there were 7314 membership renewals and we had a total membership last year of just over 12000 if I remember correctly. In 2010 we had 8074 renewals and 5792 new members. That's a total membership of 13866 members. That's from the agenda for the January BOD meeting. But we had 14060 voters so 196 members in good standing as of Dec 15 or whatever date were eligible to vote but did not renew their membership. A pretty small %.
But my real point here is that if we started 2010 with 12000 members we lost 1/3 who did not renew. And we got 5700 new members. Will they continue to be new members or are they one year wonders? I figure the KCBS probably has about 8000 members that are involved enough to renew smemberships. So around 30% of those actually voted. Makes the numbers a lot better but still not great.
It's nice to see that the KCBS is looking at membership retention in 2011. I hope they actually put together a committee under a BOD member and that they try to address the problem including tring to email members who have dropped out and ask why they didn't renew. My bet is 25% never got their renewal notice becasue they used a throw away email ID for registering. How many people update their email and mailing address with the KCBS?
