Some places will call their head chef/chef de cuisine/executive chef a "pit master," but that's about as formal and official as it gets.
A barbecue joint doesn't have to have a "pit master" by all the popular definitions here to be successful, and a "pit master" does not a successful barbecue joint make. I'd fit most of these definitions of "pit master," but I sure as hell couldn't run a restaurant kitchen.
