There are many great chicken rubs out there today. All with differing flavor profiles, and many that have won top honors at bbq contests big and small. Then, when you factor in the heaping multitude of great sauces out there... The possible combinations make my head spin... I don't know if asking a question like this on a forum like this is really going to tell you what you really want to know, because you're going to get as many different answers as there are people that respond.

My recommendation to you is to try as many as you can for yourself. Buy a family pack flat of chicken thighs and try a different rub on each one. Use tooth picks to mark which is which. Then do a taste test with your friends and family. The right rub for you may not be what everyone else is using, so keep that in mind. Do this without using a sauce. Once you decide on what rub you like best, THEN try to find a sauce that compliments the rub but doesn't overshadow it.

This is just my opinion. YMMV.
