Ron you want fair ...where you been living brother you need to start scratching peoples backs and I don't mean teams or judges....I know that sounds cynical ..but they can be very selective with their rules and contest locations being too close here but not in other areas of the country .....with your big money contests you run maybe you need to add a publicity assistant to your team and skip using kcbs if they don't fit your needs do it yourself....I help (slightly)run the atlanta bbq festival and Bob the president does all his own publicity and we have had an overflow crowd both years...sometimes its better to do it by yourself as you can have complete control of whatever you send out or how many appearances on local tv and radio you do...and unless you can get a front page in either the front page or the local section newspapers dont help unless you can get it on -line but again on the front page (ie the ajc Atlanta paper didn't even put our event in the festival section the week of the contest after we submitted it 6 weeks early ).. so good luck
