When judging, I do not remember being instructed that receiving texts etc. during judging were inappropriate. (Smoking? yes; Inappropriate bevs or food other than water? yes; No mention of texting that I remember) With that said, with the significant marking limitations and green restrictions, are you concerned that it may be possible to pick out 1 box out of an entire field, and know, for sure, that is a buddy's box? IMHO, the odds are pretty low. My cell phone is pretty good in comparison, but it is limited picture quality at best.
Assuming(I know... I know....) you are concerned about overal results, even if it was possible for a judge to receive a pic, then the questionable judge needs to then persuade his table in order to truly help the team in question. As scores discussion before they are written is a big taboo, I have never encountered this.
IMHO, is it possible? yes. would it affect anything, in my simple brain, probably not significantly. Hope this helps.
