Thank you for all the heart felt posts regarding the "Poll Question."

I have been a judge for many years and this question was based on a "perception" or feeling that I have encountered at contest of the subject type.

We all know the rules and we all know the "judging criteria" which guides us when we judge. But, I believe, based on personal experience that judges at "invitational" type events do indeed raise the bar. That is just my humble opinion!.

Judges school, retraining and or purging judges that don't make "the cut" will never address what I was questioning. Simply a perception and perhaps and unfortunately, an ultimate result on the score cards.

At most events that I am a Rep., I run the turn in area and collect the score cards. That is an amazing function and an eye opening function in itself. I keep looking for 180 BBQ because I know it is out there but it seems that there is always one judge that just can't give 9s.. Using Ed's 2 point spread, it is still seldom that you have to "talk to a judge." That is a fact. We as Reps. are always looking out for the teams well being, and that certainly involves judges' scores. We do care! The Table Captains are getting much better at flagging unusual scores as well.

I don't know where you guys put Reps. in the overall picture, but you should be assured that we feel the "pain" regarding judging, results hours before you do. Wildly different scores are always a source of concern. That is not to take anything away from the judging community, but sometimes the scores given, give cause for reflection.

KCBS is the best thing going, but judges scores will always be a personal thing. Good, bad or other, the human element will always prevail.

Thank you all for your participation in my proposed question and thanks to Bunny and Rich for adding to the discussion. It has been meaningful and I have absorbed the results of Ray's survey.
