I have been a BBQ fanatic since my first trip to the South about fifty years ago. Typically my wife and I make long drives throughout the US and sample BBQ along the way. We have tried most of the best in the South and the Midwest/West, however, I have discovered what I think is the best BBQ I have ecer tasted and it turns out to be in a relatively new spot in Reading, PA. The place is Smokin' Koby's Hilltop BBQ, 4875 N 5th St Hwy, Temple, PA 19560
The proprietor, Koby Sandusky, has brought his Texas smoked meat tradition with him to Pennsylvania Dutch country where there has been no barbecue other than a Smokey Bones franchise. When he opened I went over to try his stuff and was floored. His pulled pork, brisket and homemade sausage is unbelievable. The homemade sauces are exceptional, with my favorite being the Pig Dip, which is an Eastern Carolina style vinegar based sauce. The side dishes are excellent, but the real reason to go is obviously the meat, which is smoked on site every day. I am thrilled to have this fine quality BBQ close to my doorstep! I am a regular customer with no link to the restaurant in any way other than my desure fir great smoked meats!
