Nice to meet you this weekend, Pat! I think I agree with most of what you are saying. However, I think the problem lies not in taste but in understanding what scores mean. I have no problem taking a beating, but it would be nice to know that the folks writing down numbers actually understand what those numbers mean. In addition, I do know that a ton of good CBJs, even master CBJs applied to judge that contest and were totally ignored.
I'll be honest, I'm still reeling from my scores. Never had a beating like that and never want one again. There is a chance that I'm using the 40% CBJ thing as an excuse. Yet beyond my own personal experience, it does seem strange to me that a KCBS contest has less than 50% KCBS CBJs. But if everyone else is cool with that, and it's not against the rules, I guess I will just lick my wounds and be thankful that I got a chance to learn something new today :)
