MR, I'm not trying to sound mean here, but let me "bust your chops" for just a second in good humor ....
In a state like MI, known for tremendous apples (and blueberies!), apple wood should be as easy to locate a motorist going above 75mph! I'd say Ford is correct. I realize that the hybrid apple trees these days are not the big ones of a generation ago, and more resemble grape vines than trees, but the orchards still have to prune and also remove storm damage.
Good luck with it. By the way, I'd say the same thing about cherries -- Michigan cherries -- yummm!
