In our early days of judging we pretty much had to travel 3.5-4 hours to find a contest. The sport in our area has grown such that we can rule some of those longer trips out, but distance is not the primary factor.
I will quickly say, that I'll still make that drive if a contest is very well organized and repped by folks I have found do an excellent job of running a contest. That's why I still make the annual trip to Grillin' & Chillin' in Owensboro, KY every fall, even though it's a 4-hour trip and a hotel room.
