Lump vs briquets?

I'm not after anyone's secrets, but just curious what folks are using to smoke with. Right now I like Kingsford's Hickory flavored briquets. With lump, it just seems you don't know what your getting. I've tried Stubbs, but just doesn't seem to have the wood flavor I'm looking for. I mixed wood chunks in with mine to enhance the smoke flavor as much as possible. I started out with a wood burner before I moved up to my Stumps, but I miss the wood flavor that comes from an offset I guess.
Just would like to see what folks perfer.
