Not a lot of mods needed its super efficient. Most mods are created to distribute heat or help with air flow but my wsm doesn't have any of those issues. A lot of people do put the pass thru bolt for wired thermometers. People foil their water pan to save on cleaning and creosote build up. They also exchange some sand for water in their pan to cut down on moisture level. What I find is if you have a water pan you don't need to foil but with sand you need to or spritz/mop a lot. One mod I did was for the charcoal ring you can buy the 22.5 "grill grate" and it fits perfect in ring so if you turn it 90 degrees to charcoal grate it cuts down on size of fall through coal from quarter to dime size. Oh and this nate from bbqfans I don't post a lot but read alot so you may not recognize forum name. Anyway your wsm is uber effecient when its dialed in. Took me 3 burns is all to get it perfect but from get go it would do 10 12hrs on full ring using minion method.
