KCBS pay judges? Never happen.
The whole CBJ program is a revenue gimmick for KCBS - PERIOD. Nobody has ever failed the CBJ class as long as the check clears. If you've never been to a judging class you should go, the lack of information and total lack of any taught standard is eye opening.
Why do CBJ's score thighs higher? Because they're told in CBJ class that "most cooks cook thighs because they're juicer" The seed of predisposition has just been planted and will be reinforced over and over when these new CBJ's encounter box after box of thighs.
Did your perfect chopped brisket get scored down? It starts in CBJ class when they're told that "cooks may try and disguise overcooked brisket by presenting it chopped" - another predisposition.
Every answer to a student's inquiry about flavors, what's good vs bad, or wet vs dry ribs is answered with some form of "what do you think it should be?" or "How do you like it?"
