I have a thought on your well thought and expressed comments. How do you know that the two off the wall scores come from, "rookie, hungry, non-CBJs"? I feel some "experienced" judges are worse. They may have a preconceived notion of what bbq should taste like, and if the entry is not what they think, they score it down. Also, I feel some of the older judges that were trained under the old scoring method, starting at 9 and go down, start at 6 and look for reasons to go down from there.
I also try to remember, as hard as it is sometimes, that I did not taste the meat the judges did. That MAY be a reason for a bad score, sometimes. Just my take anyhoo, for what thats worth....Tim
